Management
The management of cervical cancer best
occurs in a dedicated gynaecological
cancer centre. Many issues need to be
discussed before a treatment plan is
organised. It is usual for a woman to
have an examination under anaesthetic
with a cystoscopy (examination of the
bladder) and sigmoidoscopy (examination
of the back passage). For very early
stage disease this can sometimes be
omitted. Other baseline investigations
include an MRI scan and review of the
pathology.
Treatment is usually
in the form of surgery, or chemotherapy
and radiotherapy. This is best decided
in a multidisciplinary setting in a
gynaecological cancer centre.
